Cary Elwes (born Ivan Simon Cary Elwes in the U.K. on October 26, 1962) is a British actor.

Elwes (pronounced "El-ways") attended Sarah Lawrence College in Yonkers, New York, where he studied acting.

Elwes descends from a staunchly Roman Catholic recusant family (originally known as the "Cary-Elwes" family, but now many branches of the family are now simply known as "Elwes") which includes noted British monks and bishops, such as Dom Columba Elwes, Archbishop Dudley Cary-Elwes and Father Luke Cary-Elwes. His artist father, Dominic Evelyn Bede Elwes, had moved in the circles of high society (and been friends with Lord Lucan and Lady Annabel Goldsmith to whom he was also related) before he took his own life. Cary's mother, Tessa Kennedy, who eloped with Elwes in 1957 to great scandal, is of Anglo-Irish and Serbo-Croatian extraction. She is married to Hollywood executive Elliott Kastner.

Elwes is best known for his roles in "The Princess Bride" and "Robin Hood: Men In Tights". He is also known internationally as a super hunk.

Elwes became engaged to the photographer Lisa Marie Kurbikoff in 1997. The couple has been married since 2001.

Elwes has 2 brothers, Cassian and Damien, who are also involved in the entertainment industry.
