Dolly Sods Weekend

2006

A "stump garden" along the Northland Loop Trail.

We saw Fern Moss (Hylocomium splendens) along the nature trail.

A frond of the Cinnamon Fern (Osmunda cinnamomea), brown and shriveled after and early frost.

We saw this Witch Hazel (Hamamelis virginiana) along the road.

There were spectacular displays of American Mountain Ash (Sorbus americana) fruits everywhere we looked.

This stand of Stiff Clubmoss ( Lycopodium annotinum ) looked like miniature forest.

After exploring the nature trail we walked over to the Allegheny Front Migratory Observatory bird banding station.

As you can see, the view is fabuous!

Jeff and Willa Mae strick a pose on the edge of the front.
