Mr. Mom (1983) is a comedy film directed by Stan Dragoti and written by John Hughes.
Plot outline
The film stars Michael Keaton and Teri Garr as Jack and Caroline, a middle class couple with three kids living in Detroit, Michigan, struggling to make ends meet. Jack loses his engineering job at an automobile manufacturer. Since the auto industry is in a slump, they agree that Jack should stay at home and look after the house and kids while Caroline utilizes her degree in advertising.
Caroline soon gets a job and Jack discovers he is clueless about how to manage a household. He falls into depression as his ego and the household fall apart. Caroline has to travel with her womanizing boss (Martin Mull) and fends off his advances, eventually punching him in the nose. One of Jack and Caroline's neighbors (Ann Jillian) is trying to put the moves on Jack also.
Caroline returns home figuring she has lost her job. In the meantime, Jack has snapped out of his depression, fended off the neighbor lady and gotten the house and kids under control. Soon, Caroline's boss comes, begging her to come back, as a large client has demanded that only she can properly handle his account. Jack's boss comes also begging for Jack to return to work. He had made too many cuts in his design team and now could not produce what his managers were demanding and was in danger of losing his job.
