30th Wedding Annivesary Dinner

DeLuxe Dining in the old Neighborhood

15 May 2012
Our 30th Wedding Annivesary Dinner

Every Wedding Anniversary I have tried to surprise Betsy with something, special or unexpected as a way of celebrating the event. In the past this has included drinks and shrimp h'ordeuvres on top of Dorsey's Knob, a champagne dinner on the deck, an overnight at the Hotel Morgan and dinner at fancy resteraunts.
Last year, Betsy turned the tables and booked a weekend in a yurt at The Wilds. Now that, was unexpected!

Having already thrown ourselves a big party for this, our 30th anniversary I felt something a bit more low key was called for on the actual day of our 30th - May 15th. So, the wheels started spinning and I came up with the perfect spot - "Gene's Place" a neighborhood beer joint right around the corner from where Betsy and I first set up house keeping at 540 Elmina Street.

Of course part of the fun is to not tell Betsy where we are going. I just told her to dress casual and we would have a short walk before and after dinner.

So, at 4:30 0n May the 15th we drove into town, parked down near the Waterfront Park and then walked over to South Park and on to Greenmont, our old neighborhood some 20 years prior. The whole time Betsy was puzzling about just where it was we could possibly be going. Soon, the mystery was over and we walked into Gene's place where once upon a time we had strolled up from the house and had a beer. But not often. In those days we were just starting out and even going out for a beer was a bit of an extravagance for us. Not anymore!!
