I couldn't resist snapping a shot of this old International Harvester D1200 Pick-up which was parked in downtown Post. It was this very same model of truck that made another Epic Road Trip back in March of 1972.

After 4 years ( 1968 - 1972) of living various type of lifestyles in San Francisco me and some of the family decided it was time to get back to the land. We had just spent 4 years living in a row house of old Victorains on Bush Steet between Steiner and Pierce Streets - the edge of the then Fillmore ghetto.

Having had enough of city life were determined to head back to good old West Virginny and homestead a place in the country. To get us back home we had a WV square back and and the "D12" as we called it. Since the truck was opened bodied I fashioned side stakes which supported arched cross pieces. This framework was then covered with a heavy duty brown tarpe and lashed down tight. The over all effect when finish was that of a covered wagon on wheels. Ahh... the hippie life! The truck was then loaded up with everyone possessions ( all 5 of us ) and then we all took turns riding in the back , usually trying to catch a nap on the long trip back home.

The D12, Square back and all of us made it all the way back to Greenbank, West Virginia in Pocahontas county. And that was the beginning of another entirely different story.
