My first shot on the water. Since the water looked like it was going to be pretty calm for this trip I decided to risk taking my Fuji S602 digital camera rather than my old Kodak DC280. I'm glad I did.

The railroad trestle in the background in on the abandoned Western Maryland Railway right-of-way which is owned by the C & O Canal National Historical Park.

A study is currently being conducted by the National Park Service to determine the future of the abandoned Western Maryland Railway through the Paw Paw Bends of the Potomac. This section of the abandoned right-of-way, which is owned by the C & O Canal National Park, goes through parts of Morgan County, W. Va., Washington County, Md. and Allegheny County, Md., just west of Hancock Md. to Paw Paw, W. Va.

If built, this Rail-Trail would have six high trestle bridges providing specatcular views of the Potomac River and surounding countyside. There would also be three tunnels which would provide a unique exsperience for trail users. All of this and much more would be on a Rail-Trail of just 12 miles in length.

Sound nice? Check out this site for more info about the WMRY from Cumberland to Hagerstown.
