Using this page

Use this page to post requests for images that you would like to be used on a Wikipedia article. Others can then upload the image{s). For comments on policies, other users, technology, and other miscellaneous concerns that are not directly related to posting images, use the Wikipedia:Village Pump.

See also the specialized page: Picture requests @ Commons

Copyright Warning

Wikipedia can accept only photographs and pictures that are licensed compatibly with the GNU Free Documentation License (GFDL) or are in the public domain. A complete guideline of what is acceptable can be found at Wikipedia:Image use policy.

  • The simplest way to ensure that is to make them ourselves and explicitly release them under the GFDL by adding {{GFDL}} to the image description page
  • It is also possible to put your own pictures in the public domain by adding {{PD-release}} to the image page
  • Other copyright options and tags can be found at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags.
  • If you're asking someone else for permission to use their image under the GFDL license, see Request for Permission

Posting a request

Before posting, please do the following steps:

  • First try to find an image on your own. For tips, see the Wikipedia:Finding images tutorial
  • Avoid blanket requests, as, for example "need pictures for all people in the Lists of people".
  • Request images only for existing articles, i.e. if there is no article, then please write an article first before requesting.
  • Add the request here if you could not find a picture. Select an appropriate subcategory or add a proper category or subcategory in the alphabetical list.
  • Link to the article for which you would like to have the picture added, and describe what kind of picture you need. Signing the request is optional.
  • Add only one picture request per bullet.

You may also wish to add the image request template, {{reqimage}} to the article's talk page, which would then list the article in Category:Wikipedia requested images.

If you need someone to take this photo for you, maybe one of them can do it in meta:Press_Corps by location. You might also ask an appropriate photographer or graphic artist. Many are willing to take requests.

Fulfilling a request

If you want to contribute an image you have taken yourself, either on film or with a digital camera, please make sure it looks optimal. Consider using graphics software such as the GIMP to enhance saturation, contrast, and sharpness (sample tutorial). You do not need to provide a thumbnail image. Please see Wikipedia:Image use policy for more advice on working with images. You can also contribute pictures not taken by you if they are available under a public domain or GFDL license. Other requested images can also be found by viewing Category:Wikipedia requested images, a page with Template:Reqimage, or by viewing Image:No_image_yet, and add images to articles that link to these pages.

  1. Ensure that the picture is properly licensed as shown in the "Copyright Warning" above
  2. Upload the Image
  3. Add the proper Image copyright tags and a description to the image description page
  4. Link the image to the corresponding article. Larger images should be linked as thumbnails. For a good tutorial see Wikipedia:Picture tutorial
  5. After you add the requested image, remove the request from this page, and the {{Reqimage}} tag from the article.
  6. You can also add your contribution to Wikipedia:Fulfilled picture requests or list it at Wikipedia:List of images.

If the license so permits, please upload the image to Wikimedia Commons[1] instead so that all the different Wikipedias can use the image.

Architecture

Generic structures

Request for any photographs of buildings or architecture in general in Sicily, particularly any which could be used in an article on Sicilian Baroque. Thanks Giano | talk 15:33, 29 September 2005 (UTC)

Specific structures

Airports

Buildings
  • Old Ashmolean Building (Now Museum of the History of Science), Oxford, UK (for Elias Ashmole)

Synagogues

Churches
  • Hagia Sophia, Istanbul. I'm looking for images of some of the more unknown mosaics. I already have the mosaic of John Chrysostom but I can't find similar images of his other preserved colleagues in the North tympanum. I'm also looking for one of the recently-discovered mosaic of John V (eastern arch). An image of the dome (under restoration) would be nice too. --Valentinian 19:59, 28 October 2005 (UTC)

Art

  • The emperor Claudius as Jupiter I need a picture of this statue from Capitoline/Vatican Museum in Rome. A detailed head-shot would also be appreciated.
  • The Three Graces I orignally posted two images of this seminal sculpture, however they were removed due to Copyright issues.I feel to not have a photographic representation of a sculpture in an encylopedic article is just daft. I've had a poke around the web but can't find a photo that is not copyright in some way. Could someone slightly more experienced in finding PD images of art help out? I really think this article needs a photo. Thanks.
  • Étrécissements
  • Emeryville Mudflat art: Need pictures of the Emeryville Mudflat art (no longer existent). These will be old - 1960, 70, 80, early 90's. (This request is intentionally duplicated below in Place in North America.)
  • Mural by Diego Rivera for the Mexican Revolution article (There is a specific one with soldiers of the revolution in mind) - Perhaps you refer to this one: Image:Mural_Diego_Rivera.jpg - hterri. Not a very good photo, but better than nothing...
  • Origami tech tree - from the article, "This page needs LOTS of pictures, and maybe some animations.". —Josh Lee 02:16, Jun 2, 2005 (UTC)
  • Children's art for the Child art page. Especially a really nice detailed realistic drawing by a 10 or eleven year old. Also child art from other cultures. Zeimusu | (Talk page) 02:55, 15 Jun 2005 (UTC)
  • Self-parody In my opinion, an artist's parody of his or her own work would be better than a self-portrait in caricature style. JerryFriedman 21:49, 14 October 2005 (UTC)

Anatomy

  • Facial Action Coding System - diagrams or labelled pictures of the zygomatic major and orbicularis oculi. FrenchIsAwesome 22:38, 24 August 2005
  • Fingernail - The main picture in that article belongs to the Nail biting article, it's not like we need the pretty manicured hands of a professional hand model, just a wikipedian who doesn't bite their nails would be better. - Hahnchen 20:35, 30 October 2005 (UTC)
  • Torso — Either a medical schematic of the torso or a photo of a nude torso. —Jwanders 21:09, 31 October 2005 (UTC)
  • Torso — An image of someone dressed up in one of those costumes where their torso is made-up to look like a giant face. —Jwanders 21:09, 31 October 2005 (UTC)

Plants

  • Genipa, a plant genus from Central and South America, with an

edible fruit (Genipa americana). There seems no photo on the internet that satisfies the Wikipedia copyright restrictions. JoJan 15:20, 23 Mar 2005 (UTC)

  • Cloudberry, to a finn the featured berry looks unripe, being so

red. Around here a ripe cloudberry would vertainly be yellowish orange. Perhaps they're redder elsewhere.

Clothing

  • Anal jewelry.
  • Bell-bottom trousers.
  • Blindfold.
  • Go go boots
  • Jumper dress.
  • Leotard. The current image doesn't really make it clear what the garment is.

    • Now has a picture of a man in a boilersuit. Anthony Appleyard 11:44, 20 September 2005 (UTC)
  • Parka (Anorak).
    • Now has a diagram from the US National Parks Service, but pictures would be good; a user offered to try to get photos of both modern and traditional Inuit parkas.
  • Polo neck sweater.
  • I would like to see a modern Red Serge appear in the Red Serge article. The current image with the pith helmet is great, and should remain, but the pith helmet hasn't been regulation for a long time methinks. Weaponofmassinstruction 21:52, 25 July 2005 (UTC)
    • User:Kchishol1970 has provided an updated image, and removed the former image. Though the new image is the current uniform, it's a little dark. I think a clearer image is still required. Weaponofmassinstruction 21:57, 14 August 2005 (UTC)
  • Stable belt
  • Trench coat. The two current images are little too small and grainy.
  • A business suit for the suit (clothes) pages.

Comic books

  • Eternals - Needs a group shot of the Eternals main characters (Sersi, Makkari, Ikaris and Thena) and of the Uni-Mind.

  • Starman (comics) - Could use some small pictures (headshots may be okay in a few cases) of some of the people to use the name, notably Ted Knight, Mikaal Tomas, Gavyn, Will Payton and Jack Knight.
  • Squadron Supreme - Needs an image, preferably the Alex Ross cover for the graphic novel that reprinted the mini-series.

Computers

  • A screenshot of the Wikipedia front page on a NeXT computer running WorldWideWeb

  • Reasonably high resolution picture of a modern CPU die or mask for the in-progress CPU article -- uberpenguin 01:47, 29 September 2005 (UTC)

Culture

  • Silver Ring Thing: I need a photo of one of the Silver Rings that are integral to this youth movement. There are photos out there on the 'net that I could go grab, but that would be a copyvio. If anyone knows a Silver Ring Thing kid who would be willing to have a photo taken of their ring, I'd greatly appreciate it. Kevyn 23:04, 27 Sep 2004 (UTC)
  • Tea stall - Any enterprising Indian Wikipedian with a digital camera out there? Preferably with benches, the shopkeeper pouring milk/tea from a vessel held as far above as possible from another vessel held in the other hand like this and people reading newspapers (if the photographic details are proper, this would easily become a featured picture, sigh! I don't have a digital camera and I don't know photography). -- Paddu 21:07, 11 Nov 2004 (UTC)
  • ndebele art. I'd like a photo of a woman painting her house in those amazing geometric designs. We don't have an article on this yet, so a photo could be used as a starting point, also it would be nice to use it to illustrate a traditional woman's role in the woman article. Films

  • A picture for Alice (2006 film) would be good if anyone can find one. Possibly IMDB Pro users could email the producers and ask very nicely for one, I don't know.. But if anyone can help, please do! --Chaosfeary 22:40, 15 October 2005 (UTC)
  • There are missing illustrations in the Timeline of CGI in films. We need captures from a number of films that pioneered various uses of CGI. The captures should actually depict the CGI examples. See the article for descriptions of what is needed for each film. The list: Futureworld, Looker, The Great Mouse Detective, Willow, Die Hard 2: Die Harder, Death Becomes Her, The Flintstones, Waterworld.
    • Which scene in Die Hard 2 is needed? Orange Goblin 09:02, 15 May 2005 (UTC)

  • Mare Nostrum (board game): Game cover or live game picture for infobox.
  • Labyrinth (game): Game cover or live game picture.
  • Upwords: Does someone have a picture of a finished Upwords game's board? I'd look on Google Images for one but I doubt the U.S./Cdn. gov't and Wikipedia's copyright rules allow me to copy it even as "fair use". --Unforgettableid 02:15, 31 October 2005 (UTC)

Video game consoles

Note: I got permission from the guys at www.vgmuseum.com to use their game pics a while ago, and started doing some of the systems listed here. However, laziness and ADD caused me to never finish. If anyone wants to go ahead and do the rest, be my guest. Lockeownzj00 05:12, 10 Aug 2004 (UTC)

  • Somebody needs to put more images of NES clones on the Famiclones article. Also, they need to make more articles about these individual NES clones. I played NES as a little kid and I still remember the classic value it had. Also, I want more NES clones to me made in the world. --TheSamurai 02:41, 5 Apr 2005 (UTC)

History

  • Tall bike. In the late 1800s, very tall bicycles were used by lamp lighters to light gas lamps. I know I've seen an old photograph of this, but I cannot find it. The article on tall bikes would benefit greatly from such a photograph. The age of the photo should place it in the public domain. Phidauex 20:17, 10 September 2005 (UTC)
  • Great Retreat. I'm new to this... Could someone please put on pictures of this period (the Great Retreat) on the article? I want to make it a FA, but it needs pictures... Could someone please put pictures on there for me? Spawn Man 08:58, 17 September 2005 (UTC)
    • Could you perhaps be a little more specific about exactly what pictures you want, i.e. what should the pictures be of? This might allow someone to obtain them; at the moment, we don't really know what you're after. Rob Church Talk | Desk 00:39, 24 September 2005 (UTC)

For what article??--Zxcvbnm 13:16, 22 July 2005 (UTC)
Fire Marshal, ofcourse ;D. Seriously though, those things account for probably 98% of the exposure the office gets to the public, and is likely the best possible pic we could get for that article (Except maybe for a badge of office). Thanx 69.142.2.68 18:01, 26 August 2005 (UTC)

Flags & Heraldry

  • Conch Republic: Coat of arms of the Conch Republic. On website only in outline, untricked and -hatched. Who knows the tinctures or blazon?
    • I would blazon it "On a roundel, sable, a compass rose of twelve, or voided azure, environed of twelve mullets, argent; over all, a conch shell, proper. The motto 'THE CONCH REPUBLIC' above, and 'We seceded where others failed' below" -- but it has been decades since I wore the herald's baldric. ➥the Epopt 17:28, 24 Dec 2004 (UTC)
      • If you're talking about that round seal of theirs, you can see a colour version on the official polo shirt < fetches own from bedroom > - it's definitely a heurte (roundel azure). Let's see... 'On a heurte, a compass rose of twelve within a roundel of mullets Or, overall a king conch proper...' and then Epopt's motto terminology.

Incidentally, the original flag which inspired the flag of the Republic is on display at the official Conch store on Duval. It's a ship flag dating from the late 1800s or early 1900s. If I'd known, I'd've taken notes! *grin* -- HL Tanarian Brenaur ferch Owain fab Bran, Trimaris (Corgi 02:02, 24 October 2005 (UTC))

  • Better-quality diagrams of tanks in hull-down and turret-down positions, to replace Hull-down tank and Sky-lined tank. There are a few other diagrams and photos out there on the web, but none as good as these. An important feature of first is naturally-sloped ground, rather than artificial-looking stepped slopes or berms like in this diagram. It would be even better if it showed the forward slope a little more, including a sight-line aligned with the crest of ground in front of the tank. Note that an M1 Abrams or Leopard tank has a maximum gun depression of -9°. Double your wikilove if you add a dotted outline of a T-72 or T-64 partly exposed further forward on the slope, with its gun at maximum depression of -5°.Michael Z. 2005-06-24 06:31 Z

  • Molotov cocktail, the article could use an actual picture of a molotov coctail. Preferably one with a free lisense, either an ilustration or a photo of a "mock up" (or real) molotov coctail. The article does have a "fair use" image of someone throwing one, but IMHO a free image that show just the "weapon" itself would be more usefull for the article (pluss fair use should be avoided if possible). --Sherool 22:51, 9 October 2005 (UTC)

These photos would be useful in the American football article, as well as tight end, wide receiver, etc., where we can point out where the tight end lines up, for example, or which guy is the fullback.
