The Canada Collaboration of the Week is an effort to improve Canada-related articles in Wikipedia, with an aim toward creating a feature-standard article during the month-long cooperative editing process. Anyone can nominate an article, or vote for a nominated article.

The project maintains a list of previously-nominated articles, a list of winning collaborations, and a partial list of participants in the project. The current collaboration is Geography of British Columbia.

Selecting the next collaboration

The December 2005 CCOTW article will be selected on Wednesday, November 30, 18:00 (UTC).

Voting

If you support an article, please vote by clicking on edit by the article's title, and add a new line with the text "# ~~~~". This will add your username and the time you signed automatically. Please add comments that might help others .

  • Please only add support votes - opposing votes will not affect the result as the choice is done by approval voting (the most votes, wins). Note your opposition under the Comments section.
  • Vote for as many candidates as you like.
  • A vote implies that you will make some contribution to the article if it is chosen.
  • Only registered users should vote.
  • Being Canadian is not a requirement to vote!

Nominating an article

New nominations can be added at any point. To add a new nomination, please:

  1. Copy the template below
  2. Paste it at the end of the list of Nominations

Selection

Each month, the collaboration is chosen based on the article with the largest amount of support. In case of a tie, voting will be extended for 24 hours. If there is still a tie, the candidate that was nominated first wins.

When a new selection has been made, the {{Current Canadian COTW}} template should be placed on the successful candidate's article page, and the following files need to be updated:

Pruning

An article is removed from the list of nominations if it has not reached 3 votes by the end of the next complete choosing interval, or not chosen for two months. Removed nominations are listed at /Removed.

Nominations

Hockey Night In Canada

Reasons for nomination: This regular hockey telecast is watched by millions, and is part of the fabric of Canadian culture. I've cleaned up the article a bit, but a deeper exploration of the show's history, as well as the current features (such as Coach's Corner) is needed.

Coquitlam, British Columbia

Reasons for nomination: This article is in a sad state, and includes very little information besides a picture and an infobox.

  1. Okay, I agree in a general sense that it is a worthy topic, but could we hear more as to what specifically could be updated with this topic? Saying it is in a sad state (which it is) does not provide a lot of guidance as to how it should be improved. If someone could suggest sub-categories of this topic (e.g. transit info? history? Did any famous painters/writers/politicians/whatever spend significant amounts of time here? In short what makes this city unique and interesting from a Wikipedian stand-point.) is applicable, and even an Ontarionian like me might vote for the topic. ;-) Captmondo 14:54, 9 August 2005 (UTC)

Asbestos Strike

Reasons for nomination: This is a very important aspect of Quebec history. It events had a great impact on the future of Quebec in Canada. There is a large amount of information out there on this event however the article is not very large. The strike is also on a huge event in Canadian labour history. It was the second most violent strike after the Winnipeg General Strike.

  • I know that the Asbestos Strike certainly had a very important impact on the politics, culture, role of Church, and labour history of Quebec, not to mention the boost it gave to the careers of Trudeau, Marchand, and Pelletier but I don't know anything beyond what the article already states. What is lacking and where can it be found? DoubleBlue (Talk) 20:06, 3 August 2005 (UTC)

1998 Ice Storm

Reasons for nomination: A major disaster in Canada. A lot more information could be added. Could be worked to a similar quality of Oka Crisis, a recent Canadian Collaboration.

Canadian National Exhibition

Reasons for nomination: "the oldest and largest annual fair in the world" deserves more than two, three paragraphs.

  2. Captmondo 02:42, 28 August 2005 (UTC) There's a lot of history behind that fair. Count me in, even if it doesn't win the nomination. Also, I'll be going in a few day's time. Photo recommendations anyone? (Particular buildings, or the Princes's Gate?)

  • More photos would be nice.-- 199.71.174.100 02:11, 28 August 2005 (UTC)
  • Have already started work revamping this article. Took pictures of various buildings while I was there the other days and uploaded the better ones to Wikimedia. Am taking a building-by-building approach to the subject, which seems appropriate since there are so many architecturally significant buildings on its grounds. Will work on this one as far as I can take it. The article is at least no longer a stub. ;-) Captmondo 12:59, 31 August 2005 (UTC)

  • No question the LO is important, but what should be added to the article that isn't there already? - Greyfedora 16:08, 7 September 2005 (UTC)
    • The concept of PM-in-waiting, the role of the opposition and the leader in the chamber, the creation of a shadow cabinet, the evolution of the position since 1867, etc. - Jord 18:11, 7 September 2005 (UTC)

Simon Fraser (explorer)

Reasons for nomination: One of the most important explorers in Canadian history, mapping out huge portions of the west while with the North West Co. Definately needs more attention.

District of Keewatin

Reasons for nomination: Canadian territory in central Canada from 1876 to 1905, and a Northwest Territories administration district until 1999. Article is very under developed, as well as a generally forgotton piece of canadian history.

Adrienne Clarkson

Reasons for nomination: The page for the former Governor General of Canada is a real mess at the moment. With a little work it could be pretty good
