Rachel Pollack (born 1945) is an American science fiction author, comic book writer, and Tarot expert. Her book 78 Degrees of Wisdom is widely considered one of the best texts dealing with Tarot available, and she has created her own Tarot deck called "Shining Woman Tarot." She also aided in the creation of the Vertigo Tarot Deck, continuing a long relationship with comic books and comics authors, and wrote a book specifically to accompany that deck.

She is commercially best known for her run on the cult-favorite comic book Doom Patrol. In it she dealt with things like menstruation, sexual identity, and transsexuality. She first got the job writing for Doom Patrol after her persistant letters to the editor. Her run on the book met with much critical acclaim, but only lasted 24 issues. She was succeeded by John Arcudi. In addition to Doom Patrol, she also wrote for New Gods, the Geek, Time Breakers, and many mini-series for Vertigo comics.

Her science fiction novels would more appropriately be called alternative fiction and explore worlds imbued with elements pulled from a number of traditions, faiths and religions as well as the inner lives of very realistically-drawn characters.
