INTRO: Michigan Meander - From the Thumb to the Yooper
Greetings from Flint Michigan!
Betsy and I just rolled into a Motel 6 and are ready to kick off our Michigan Meander. We are very glad to be back in our favorite playground and we are planning to visit some areas we have not yet explored.
Most trips up here are spent in the Upper Peninsula (AKA: Yooper or UP). Last time we were here we did explore some new areas in the Lower Peninsula. We tent camped at Tawas State Park where we enjoyed the beach and from there we made day trips into the Huron National Forest. Both surprised us with their uniqueness and beauty.
This year we are going to check out Michigan's Thumb. We have heard about it for years but never checked it out. Although it is mostly bean, beet and corn fields it does have 150 miles of shoreline. And that is where we will be heading tomorrow.
So stayed tuned and come along with us for our visit to the Thumb and beyond...
For the geographically challenged, here are a few orientation maps.
